It may seem odd to have a vocational component in our Wellness Program, given the fact that most of our Residents are retirees, but the many skills and talents one develops as a homemaker or by virtue of a career have continued importance even after retiring, and their pursuit can be as stimulating as it is gratifying. Here, at Appalachian Christian Village, we give expression to those many skills and talents through a very active volunteer program — and, in giving, one receives. |
| Some of our volunteer activities are just plain fun. For example, our Residents are often called upon to share a particular forté through cooking demonstrations, craft classes, and other presentations. Other activities are designed to help those in need. For example, many of our Residents who sew make tiny shirts for babies in South America and other small articles for hospice patients, while those with a flair for ceramics or painting or other artistic pursuits create gifts that are donated to various organizations, as well as our own Health Care Residents. |
