Appalachian Christian Village works in partnership with the Alzheimer's Association in an effort to educate the public about the realities of memory loss and to train our staff in how to work more effectively with residents who suffer from this disease. As part of our commitment to the continuing education of all of our staff members, we conduct workshops led by various professionals in the field of gerontology to educate our staff members from every department about the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. The workshops also provide our staff with realistic training on how to respond to and assist our Residents who have memory issues. In recognition of the fact that Alzheimer’s disease can often be more devastating for family members and friends than the disease victims, we also offer orientation and training programs for friends and family members to help them understand more about the disease and give them facts that can be helpful as the Resident adjusts to living in a new environment. |
